Aragonit

Als

bezeichnet man eine Modifikation .html"> (Calciumcarbonat)s (CaCO3. Es handelt sich hierbei um eine rhombisch | (rhombisch) kristalline Modifikation. Neben dem Aragonit gibt es noch zwei weitere Modifikationen des Calciumcarbonats, Kalzit .html"> (Vaterit). Die stabilste der drei Modifikationen ist der Kalzit, welcher vor allem als Kalkstein .html">Kreide .html"> (Marmor) in der Natur vorkommt.

Vorkommen

Aragonit ist der Hauptbestandteil des Perlmutt .html"> (Perle)n, welche vom Mantel der Muscheln | (Muscheln) gebildet werden.

Geschichte

Der Name Aragonit stammt von seinem Entdecker Francois Arago .html"> (Quarz) das optische Drehvermögen | (optische Drehung|optische Drehvermögen) entdeckte.
