Aracaju
ist die Hauptstadt des

Sergipe). Sie liegt an der Atlantikküste, ca. 350 nördlich der Stadt
Salvador | (
Salvador da Bahia | Salvador). Sie hat ca. eine halbe Million Einwohner und stellt damit einen großen Anteil der Bevölkerung des Bundesstaates.
Sie wurde 1855 gegründet und geplant angelegt, um die Hauptstadt des Staates Sergipe von
Săo Cristóvăo | (
Săo Cristóvăo) in eine neue Stadt mit besseren Entwicklungsbedingungen zu verlegen.
Der Name der Stadt ist aus ''Ara'' (Papagei und ''
Cajú | (
Cajú)'' - eine Frucht - zusammengesetzt.
